Aldi food stores now has 6 locations on Long Island, New York.  Aldi is a different kind of supermarket.  90% of what they sell is their own generic brand.  But it your a bargain shopper who wants more than the dollar store groceries, this is the place for you. 

Milk everyday low price $1.99 a gallon.  Milk is milk, its all the same no mater who's name goes on the label.  How many of us but Pathmark or Stop and Shop brand milk for $3.99.  This is half price every day.


They sell a little of everything, from Dairy , Meats, Grocery and Frozen Foods.  If you buy store brand in other supermarkets, you will probably find it here cheaper!

Couponing On Long Island Can Bring Double Rewards.

One of the most rewarding deals on Long Island is using and doubling coupons.   Thousands of Islanders are saving each week at the grocery store by cutting out and collecting manufacturers coupons on hundreds of items.

Stores will even Double the coupon up to a certain value.  To my knowledge King Kullen is the only grocery store chain on Long Island that Doubles Coupons each and every week.  They are also the only grocery store to double up to and including $1.00.   Unfortunately King Kullen doesn't have as many sales each week as Stop & Shop, Waldbaums and Shoprite.

If your Smart, match the ads to the coupons you have, double those coupons, you can save a whole lot of money.
Here's some tips to save the most money with coupons.

1. Don't buy items you don't use.  Your not saving money if you throw the item away when it gets old.

2.  Organize your coupons and keep track the dates.  Nothing worse when you get to the register and find out the coupon expired.

3.  Match your coupons to item on sale in each grocery store.   Not every sale is advertised. so sometimes you just have to keep your eyes open and look for that bargain. Matching a good sale with a coupon on the week the store is doubling or even tripling coupons and you hit the jackpot.

4. Read the sale signs carefully.  Example a sign for Coke sales buy 5 for $5.00.  if the sign says must buy
5 on it, you have  buy 5.  If it doesn't you can buy one bottle of coke for $1.00 each.  Now if you have a coupon for $.50 cents off 3 bottles of Coke, and double it, you only pay $2.00 for 3 bottles.

Gas Prices Drop to $3.19 in Suffolk County, NY.

Gas Prices keep going down.  Lowest price I've seen for gas in a long time.  The Sunoco at the corner of Route 112 and Granny rd. Coram / Medford.

Regular Gas is $3.19 for cash $3.29 Credit/ Debit.

Long Islanders Eating off the Dollar Menu

Long Island sure have a lot of fast food restaurants, McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, Arby, Wendy, Nathans, Sonic, Dairy Queen, KFC, White Castles just to name a few.

Its hard saying no to your kids all the time when they ask to gout to eat.  But, if you plan well you can eat of the Dollar Menu at most fast food restaurants on long Island. 
Each Franchise is allowed to charge their own prices so there will be some differences from store to store.  For example, mall and expresses, such as those inside WalMart may charge more.  

Young child expect to get a toy with a kids meal.  If you again plan a head and stop at the dollar store you can get a toy better than that McDonald's may give out. 

Here's an example of a Dollar value meal for one Adult and two small children.  Burger King this week has chicken nuggets on sale 10 for $1.49.   Jr chicken sandwich $1.00 , small drink $1.49.  small fries $1.49.  If the children share the drink, fries, nuggets and a toy, total is about $9.00 plus tax.

Same meal off the Regular menu cost at least $16 more.   For that price how much goes in the garbage. 

Most fast food restaurants have dollar menu's.  You just have to be willing to use them.  Don't be embarrassed to be frugal.  The kids won't know if you don't tell them.  They just want to have some fun eating out.
